If people, animals and vegetation suffer from heat waves, then cars are not spared either. The impact of a heat wave fell on the cloud servers of Google and Oracle in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, whose cooling systems failed and therefore could not carry out their mission. According to the Google Cloud service status page, the incident occurred at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday at a London data center and ended in the early hours of the morning. “This has caused a partial outage of virtual machines in this area (South UK) resulting in some services and some machines being down.”according to Google.
Oracle experienced a similar outage at its London data center. To prevent other machines from overheating, Google and Oracle decided to shut down several servers while the cooling system was repaired. As a result, some websites were no longer available and many services, such as the WordPress hosting platform, stopped working in parts of Europe. Atom Bank customers also had the greatest difficulty accessing the UK online banking app.
London’s data centers were not configured to operate at such high temperatures. On Tuesday, the United Kingdom saw the thermometer exceed 40°C in some areas, something unusual. These heat records have also seriously affected the country’s road and rail infrastructure.
