The Moscow court fined the American giant Google with 21,000,000,000 rubles (about $360,000,000) for not removing content exposing the offensive in UkraineIt is reported by Roskomnadzor.

The agency reported that YouTube, a video platform owned by Googledid not block “false information” about an offensive in Ukraine nor content that “promotes extremism and terrorism” or “encourages minors to participate in unsanctioned demonstrations.”

This is a recurring offer. According to the law, the company was sanctioned based on “its annual turnover” in Russia, Roskomnadzor noted.

network pressure

In recent years, Russian authorities have stepped up pressure on major Western digital companies, using systematic fines and threats, in the hope of silencing critics on the Internet, one of Russia’s free-speech spaces.

However, like most Western tech giants, Google left the Russian market to condemn the military offensive in Ukraine.

According to industry expert Vladimir Zykov, quoted by RIA Novosti, this is the highest fine ever imposed on a high-tech company in Russia.

Zykov Russian authorities may impose Google “how many fines they want, they will not receive money” because the American company ceased operations in Russia and you don’t make any more money. At the moment, Google did not react in any way to this historical penalty.

Roskomnadzor accused Google and YouTube about “terrorist” activity in March, which foreshadows the site’s possible closure in Russia, as did Twitter, Instagram and many independent media after the terrorist attack in Ukraine.

The Russian authorities have greatly strengthened the legal arsenal to control reports of a military operation, threatening those who spread “false information” about the Russian army with up to 15 years in prison. Currently, several people are in jail on these charges. (afp)
