The operation to remove the tumor, enveloping the entire cerebrospinal canal and filling most of the patient’s abdominal cavity, lasted 15 hours and became the longest in departmental history.
In LVIV, a unique operation was conducted by 18-year-old Kharkiv, Elena Shishkina, who found a rare tumor-a spinal cord. The neoplasm of 6 kg led the spinal cord and penetrated the small pelvis, threatened the life and function of the girl’s motor. It was reported to the first LVIV’s medical association.
The operation lasted 15 hours and became a record for the hospital. The doctors of two LVIV clinics – St. Nicholas and St. Panteleimon – worked in two stages.
First, the neurosurgeons removed the tumor to the spine, after which the urologists removed the remaining neoplasms, as the tumor had to be removed to maintain the genitals.
Elena is already walking and can make plans for the future.
“I don’t feel hellish pain anymore and I finally fall asleep, as I like,” the girl shared.
Remember that in Lviv the surgeons successfully removed a large tumor from a 9-year-old boy. The stone tumor is the size of the ball.
Earlier in Kropyvnitsky, oncologists removed a tumor weighing 10 kg, in Lviv a woman was removed by a larger tumor – weighing 13 kilograms, and to Poltava they first moved a donor heart.
