Additional tests of the OpFires hypersonic weapon system are scheduled for later this year.

As part of the Operational Fire (OpFires) program, the first flight test of a hypersonic weapon was successfully conducted at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This was reported by DARPA.

It was noted that the test flight achieved all objectives.

In particular, the main objective of OpFires is to develop and demonstrate a two-stage ground-based propulsion system capable of overcoming modern air defense systems with the help of hypersonic load and accurate hitting of targets.

“The OpFires program is a great example of how DARPA, in partnership with the industry, is helping the Department of Defense facilitate the rapid development and testing of advanced hypersonic technologies to accelerate the delivery of transformative combat capabilities, “said Michael White, chief director of hypersonics.

It was previously reported that the first successful launch of the new European launch vehicle Vega-C took place at the Kourou cosmodrome.
