A threat to European metadata transfers

Meta will shut down Facebook and Instagram in Europe. According to Politico, Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPE) has informed its counterparts on the continent that it intends to order the American group to stop transferring its European users’ data to the US. If this decision were to be ratified, Meta would have only two options on paper: either to deeply restructure its operations so that European data remains within the Community, or to close its services in the Union.
