In Ukraine, free vaccination against human papillomavirus will be introduced for girls 12-13 years old. Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin announced this on Wednesday, January 15, Ukrinform wrote.
He clarified that the corresponding changes are given in the new edition of the National Vaccination Calendar.
“The human papillomavirus is the main cause of cervical cancer – about 90% of cases. This virus is also the cause of cancer of the oral cavity and pharynx in 70% of cases,” said Kuzin.
He explained that HPV vaccination, depending on the manufacturer and type of vaccine, is done in several stages. The initial dose is given between the ages of 9 and 14 years, and today one injection dose costs an average of five thousand hryvnias.
“The version of the order on changes in the vaccination calendar proposed for public discussion states that if, conditionally, starting January 1, 2026, a girl is 12-13 years old, then she will be eligible -should be for a one-time free HPV Vaccination,” said Kuzin and clarified that if, on January 1, 2026, the girl is If she is 14 years old, she is not eligible for free vaccination.
According to the deputy minister, the ministry is now deciding which vaccine against human papillomavirus should be purchased.
The introduction of the vaccination procedure is planned for January 2026.
