20-year-old Ignacio Gorriti became popular in social networks after creation artificial intelligence which recognizes sign language.
A video showing its functionality was one of the most shared on Twitter and sparked interest in the technology.
The project that starts
Gorriti is an Argentine systems engineering student at UNICEN (National Central University of the Province of Buenos Aires) and his work is very recent.
“The initiative came about because I had doubts about how I could communicate as smoothly as possible with a deaf-mute person,” he said. Page 12.
Its purpose, he states, is “to provide a tool so that anyone who does not know interpretations can understand them, and in the most flexible way.”
“The goal is to be able to form a team of programmers, organizations and people associated with sign language to be able to further develop artificial intelligence, expanding its scope and making it work better,” he says.
recognize signs
Judging by the video, artificial intelligence recognizes the shape of the hands that are in front of the screen.
The system matches what it sees against its database to give the user an idea, and also shows in percentages how close to reality the password being used is.
“Being in beta and having very few days to live, it only recognizes 4 terms, but the idea is to be able to expand on them and make them much bigger,” he states.
