Scientists have invented the sand battery

Sand is great for energy conservation because this material has a high heat capacity.

Scientists have created a sand battery that allows you to save energy for a long time. The reason for this invention was Moscow, which completely stopped the supply of gas and electricity to Finland. The Air Force reported this, on Wednesday, July 6th.

According to scientists, the principle of battery operation is relatively simple: cheap solar and wind energy are used to heat a pool filled with sand. From the sand, air is heated, circulating inside the battery chamber using a heat exchanger.

Sand can be heated up to a temperature of approximately 500 ° C, and its high heat capacity allows it to store energy that can later be used to heat residential buildings.

It was noted that the first sand collector was installed at the Vatajankoski power plant, from where centralized heating is provided to the nearest communities. She looks pretty impressive. It was a gray bunker filled with 100 tons of construction sand.

It was previously reported that scientists found previously unseen types of crystals in meteorite dust.
