POT returned the launch window for takeoff Artemis 1the first step towards bringing people back to Moon.
The space agency proposes launching the system as part of a rocket from August 23 to September 6. SLS and capsule Orion.
path to the moon
The date was provided by Jim Free, Associate Administrator of the Research Systems Development Program at POT, in an interview Ars Technique.
“That’s the goal we’re aiming for,” Free said. “It would be foolish not to focus on it now. We’ve made incredible progress in the last week.”
POT ensures that the fourth wet dress rehearsal of the rocket SLS was successful despite the fact that the previous count was not completed until the exact moment it should be released.
While not ideal, the agency considers the time it takes to fix problems encountered during testing, such as replacing a seal that caused a hydrogen leak, to be decent.
What will Artemis 1 be like?
Artemis 1 will consist in sending a rocket SLS with capsule Orion into orbit Moon.
SLS, the agency’s most powerful to date, it will propel a ship towards a satellite but will not carry people. However, all data obtained from the mission will serve to Artemis 2scheduled for 2023 (although with delays this may not happen until 2024) will put astronauts into the same lunar orbit.
Both missions will be key to Artemis 3culminating in the landing of a man on the moon in more than five decades.
