The Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2024 went to David Baker for the creation of new proteins and Demis Gassabis and John Jumper for the development of artificial intelligence that predicts their structure.
The Nobel Committee has announced the 2024 chemistry prize winners.
Half of the award went to David Baker for his computational design of new proteins with potential for the creation of vaccines, drugs and nanomaterials. The other half was awarded to Demis Gassabis and John Jumper for their development of the AlphaFold2 artificial intelligence model, which solved the 50-year-old problem of predicting the structure of proteins.
AlphaFold2 predicts the structure of 200 million proteins, enabling new scientific breakthroughs in drug development and fighting antibiotic resistance.
It was previously reported that the Nobel Committee announced the winners of the physics prize on October 8.
