On Wednesday, October 2, residents of the Southern Hemisphere will witness a rare astronomical phenomenon – an annular solar eclipse known as the “ring of fire.” Space reported it.
At this moment, the Moon will not completely cover the Sun, leaving a bright bright circle around it. A similar effect occurs due to the fact that the Moon is at a greater distance from the Earth, so it appears smaller than the Sun.
The eclipse will last from sunrise to sunset, with its apogee at lunchtime. The longest “ring of fire” will be visible for 7 minutes 25 seconds northwest of Easter Island, where the speed of the Moon’s shadow will decrease to 2057 km/h.
Unfortunately, this phenomenon is not available for observation in Ukraine and Europe, but its broadcast can be watched online.
It was previously reported that astronomers have a unique opportunity, thanks to satellite images, to study the solar eclipse that occurred on April 8, 2024.
