China on Wednesday launched five new remote sensing satellites into space using the Lijian-1 Y4 launch vehicle. They will be used for land surface monitoring and weather observations. This was reported by CGTN on Wednesday, September 25.
The spacecraft was launched by a commercial launch vehicle Lijian-1 Y4, which took off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert in northwest China.
The satellites include two Yunyao-1 family devices numbered 21 and 22, Jilin-1 SAR01A and the first two satellites of the new AIRSAT constellation. All of them are designed for surveying the earth’s surface, meteorological observations and other types of monitoring of the planet’s surface.
The Lijian-1 Y4 rocket is the first lightweight four-stage solid propellant rocket developed by the commercial arm of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS Space.
It is 30 m tall, 2.65 m in diameter and weighs 149 tonnes, and is capable of carrying up to 2000 kg of payload into low-Earth orbit.
The first flight of this launch vehicle took place on July 27, 2022.
Let’s recall that on the morning of September 24, China launched a Smart Dragon-3 space launch vehicle with eight satellites from an offshore platform in the Yellow Sea.
China also made the first launch of the Long March-6C launch vehicle, a new model in this family of rockets. It launched four satellites into low-Earth orbit.
Earlier, China launched the Chanye-6 lunar probe on the far side of the Moon. He must collect and deliver satellite rock samples to Earth.
