According to Elon Musk, the first launch will take place in two years, when the corresponding window opens between Earth and Mars.
SpaceX has announced ambitious plans to fly about five uncrewed Starship missions to Mars over the next two years. It was reported by Reuters.
Elon Musk, the company’s founder, said earlier this month that the first Starships will go to the Red Planet in two years, when the next window for travel between Earth and Mars opens.
The launch of manned missions depends on the success of these unmanned flights. If they are successful, a crewed flight could take place within four years. However, if there are difficulties, the mission to the people can be postponed for another two years.
One of Starship’s milestones was the launch in June, where the rocket successfully returned to Earth after completing a full orbit and landed in the Indian Ocean, completing its test mission on the fourth attempt.
Elon Musk emphasized that Starship is a key element in his plans to create a next-generation multi-mission spacecraft capable of transporting people and cargo first to the Moon by the end of the decade and later to Mars.
It was previously reported that the first flights to Mars could take place within two years, and the landing of the first humans on this planet within four years.
