In the future, the gadget could provide vision beyond natural vision, allowing vision in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum.
Neuralink received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop Blindsight technology to help people with vision loss.
The company’s founder, Elon Musk, said that the device can not only restore sight, but also give people “superpowers,” such as vision in the infrared or ultraviolet spectrum.
However, a real breakthrough is still far away. The FDA’s Breakthrough Device Development Program, which includes Blindsight technology, offers participants only expert support and priority review of applications. In addition, Blindsight is an advanced version of existing technologies already used for limited vision upgrades.
Blindsight works by stimulating the brain’s visual cortex through implanted electrodes that receive data from a camera.
Earlier it was reported that the Japanese company Sony has released a camera for people with poor eyesight. The device has a laser projector.
