A bright explosion in the sky, darkening the light of the stars and the Moon, caused the burning of a type of meteor known as a fireball.
NASA astronauts on the International Space Station recorded a bright green flash above Earth caused by a meteor entering the atmosphere. Space.com reported it
American astronaut Matthew Dominic, in charge of the SpaceX Crew-8 mission, shared a video of an unusual phenomenon, reports Space.com. The flare took place in Cairo, Egypt, and the footage was compiled from 20 separate images captured by the Cupola module.
Dominic explained that this phenomenon resulted from the burning of a fireball – a bright meteor that exploded in the atmosphere. The slow-motion video clearly shows the trajectory of the space object and the moment of a bright explosion with green light obscuring the stars and the Moon.
I showed it to some friends yesterday to see what they thought. They both thought it was a meteor bursting through the atmosphere – a relatively bright one called a bolide. The timelapse is slowed down to one frame per second so you can see it streaking and then exploding.
