Now the biggest problem is the cost of delivering a ton of cargo to Mars, which is about $1 billion, Elon Musk said.
The first flights to Mars could take place within two years, and the landing of the first humans on this planet within four years. The American billionaire, founder of the company SpaceX, Elon Musk, announced this on the social network X.
According to him, the first unmanned ships will be sent to Mars, which will check the reliability of the landing. This will be possible in two years, when the next window opens for flights from Earth to Mars.
“If these landings are successful, the first crew on Mars will take place within four years. After that, the number of flights will grow significantly to build a self-sufficient city within 20 years ,” Musk wrote.
According to him, the biggest problem today is the cost of delivering a ton of cargo to Mars, which is about $1 billion.
“To build a self-sustaining city there, the cost has to rise to 100 thousand US dollars per ton, so the technology must be 10 thousand times better, but it is not impossible,” the businessman believes.
As you know, SpaceX is developing a 120-meter Starship launch vehicle for the flight to Mars. In June of this year, the rocket made its first successful flight. A total of four launches were conducted and incremental progress was recorded for each.
Previously, SpaceX produced a video showing what the first flight to Mars would look like with humans aboard the Starship rocket.
