UGC 3478 is also called a Seyfert galaxy because it contains an active stellar core.
The Hubble Space Telescope captured an image of the spiral galaxy UGC 3478, located in the constellation Giraffe.
At its center is a supermassive black hole, which is an active galactic nucleus, also known as a Seyfert nucleus. The ESA reported that the bright dot at the center of the galaxy harbors a black hole that is consuming gas and emitting intense light.
The galaxy is located 128 million light years from Earth. Astronomers hope the new data will help better understand how galaxies interact with black holes.
It was previously reported that the Hubble telescope took an image of the spiral galaxy NGC 4951, located 49 million light years from Earth.
