Elon Musk’s SpaceX unveils the Starlink Mini. Satellite internet service is already available on boats, planes, vans, Amazonian tribes in more than 75 countries, and is now becoming available to tourists. The Verge reported it.
The new Starlink Mini is laptop-sized, has a built-in Wi-Fi router and is DC powered. Despite the lower power consumption, the terminal provides data transfer rates of more than 100 Mbit/s.
The Starlink Mini uses, on average, 20-40 W compared to 33-62 W for the older version. Such a terminal can be powered using a regular USB-C PD power bank with a minimum power of 100 W (20 V/5 A).
The device measures 259 x 259 x 38.5 mm, weighs 1.1 kg and is rated IP67 against dust and rain, including short periods of submersion in water.
The Mini kit costs $599 and the subscription costs $30 per month. It gives Starlink Mini users up to 50GB of data monthly, with an option to buy more than $1 per GB.
It was previously reported that the Pentagon extended the contract with SpaceX for another six months to provide Starlink Internet services to Ukraine.
