In Mexico, a 59-year-old man died from a new strain of avian influenza A(H5N2). This is the first fatal case in the world, as well as the first laboratory-confirmed case of human infection with this influenza virus, the World Health Organization reported.
The man reportedly developed symptoms of the disease in April. He has fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nausea and general malaise.
After a few days, the patient went to the doctors and was hospitalized. It was not possible to save the patient: the same day in the hospital he died from complications.
It was also noted that the man was bedridden for other reasons before the signs of bird flu appeared.
Last year, China recorded the world’s first human death from bird flu.
The first case of human infection with H3N8 bird flu was also recorded in China – in April 2022. A four-year-old boy from Henan province developed fever and other symptoms after being exposed to chickens and crows .
