In January-February 2014, former law enforcement officials actively suppressed peaceful protests in Kyiv.
The former commander of the Berkut motor transport platoon in Sevastopol and three other employees of this special unit were informed of the suspicion of treason. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General on Thursday, May 23.
It was noted that in January-February 2014, former law enforcement officials actively suppressed peaceful protests in Kyiv.
Returning to Sevastopol, the defendants illegally seized several dozen units of automatic weapons stored at the location of special forces.
Subsequently, the suspects conspired with representatives of Russia and other persons who assisted the aggressive country in subversive activities against Ukraine. From February 27 to March 20, 2014, suspects used weapons to block roads between Crimea and Kherson region. Thus, they contributed to the Russian Federation’s annexation of Crimea.
The defendants were charged with encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, high treason, as well as possession of firearms through abuse of their official position.

We remind you that the State Bureau of Investigation has previously completed an investigation into 20 Berkut members who used weapons against participants in the Revolution of Dignity. Indictments against the killers of the Maidan activists were submitted to the court.
The investigation believes that former President Viktor Yanukovych ordered then Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaly Zakharchenko to use firearms against Euromaidan participants around 7 am on February 20, 2014.
