The energy systems of Great Britain and Denmark are connected by the 764-kilometer Viking Link undersea electric cable, which is considered the longest in the world. The BBC reported this on Friday, December 29.
The Viking Link cable is said to have been the first to connect Britain to the mainland. It will be used to provide the island with cheaper electricity, enough for 2.5 million households, produced by Denmark’s wind farms.
The standard capacity of the cable is 800 MW, but can be increased to 1400 MW if necessary.
