NSDC Secretary noted that victory in the war is not only about protecting Ukrainians. The next victims of Russian aggression may be the Baltic countries and Poland.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov said that Ukraine will fail if the start of EU accession negotiations is delayed. But it’s not the end of the world. He said this in an interview with laRepubblica, published on the day of the start of the summit of the leaders of the European Union in Brussels.
Answering the question of how Ukraine will react if Hungary blocks the start of membership negotiations, Danilov said:
“We will fail. But this is not the end of the world. I am interested in something else. What is the European Union? If it is a community of values, surely we meet all the criteria for freedom. We are a democratic country. A community that supports freedom of speech and human rights.”
He added that winning the war is not just about protecting Ukrainians. Danilov believes that the defeat of Ukraine could lead to the Baltic countries and Poland being the next victims of Russian aggression.
Let’s recall that President Vladimir Zelensky, speaking via video link at the European Union summit today, called on EU leaders not to hesitate in Ukraine.
Previously, he said that Ukraine does not have a “plan B” in case there is no positive decision on the start of negotiations on the accession of our state to the EU.
