The uniqueness of the operations is a unique minimally invasive procedure that allows you to replace a damaged aortic valve without opening the chest and without stopping the heart.
In Kovel, Volyn region and Vinnitsa, surgeons performed unique heart operations. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“Their uniqueness is a unique minimally invasive technique that allows you to replace a damaged aortic valve without opening the chest and without stopping the heart. This procedure is called TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation). It is usually done in best clinics in The doctors from the Kiev Center for Pediatric Cardiology came to unique operations and shared their experience with colleagues from the Vinnytsia and Volyn regions. Capital cardiac surgeons perform similar interventions in for several years in a row and saved the lives of seriously ill patients,” the message said.
The first two operations were performed by specialists at the Vinnitsa Regional Clinical Hospital named after Pirogov.
They performed two TAVI procedures in patients who did not undergo conventional heart surgery due to complex comorbidities and a high risk of failure. But it is impossible to do without surgical intervention. The only way out is a minimally invasive, albeit highly complicated, operation using the TAVI technique. Its use in this case made it possible to give patients a chance for a long and fulfilling life,” the ministry’s press service said.
In Volyn, the team of cardiac surgeon Gleb Yemets, together with specialists from the Kovel City District Territorial Medical Association, performed the first TAVI procedure in the region.
“The patient is a woman who was also denied open heart surgery. Two children of the military came to support her mother, who was released from the front for this purpose. Fortunately, the operation was successful,” said the ministry.
It is reported that the Kiev Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery has been performing such operations since 2016 and was one of the first to use TAVI in Ukraine, and is now teaching this technique to colleagues from the regions.
“The spread of such modern methods of treatment and training of specialists in the regions is a very important part of the development of medicine in general and in heart surgery in particular. It allows Ukrainian doctors to save many life as long as possible,” the Ministry of health records.
