The Pirola strain, according to the WHO classification, requires special management and monitoring due to the fact that not all of its characteristics are known.
At the end of the epidemic period in Ukraine, the Pirola strain of the coronavirus will prevail. Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
Kuzin noted that the Pirol strain is very quickly replacing the common Omicron strain, which now circulates almost all over the world, and, obviously, can reach every country.
“It is not possible to close the borders; either a sick person will come, or a Ukrainian will leave and come during the incubation period. So, sooner or later he will be on the territory of Ukraine. This will lead with an increase in the incidence rate, and, most likely, at the end of the epidemic period, then existing at the end of the 1st quarter of 2024, it will prevail on the territory of Ukraine, as it is now registered by the countries of the region of Europe ,” said Kuzin.
The deputy minister added that the Pirola strain, according to the WHO classification, requires special supervision and monitoring due to the fact that not all of its properties are known.
“Importantly, this is a mutation around the Omicron variant, which has all the properties inherent to the main Omicron strain. This means that it is transmitted just as quickly and does not cause severe disease in people without immunocompromised conditions . or coexisting serious non-infectious diseases, “- said Kuzin.
We remind you that on May 5, the World Health Organization announced the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. And on July 1, quarantine was lifted in Ukraine due to Covid-19. Over the past few weeks, the Ministry of Health has noted a gradual increase in the incidence of the coronavirus disease in Ukraine. On average, 2-2.5 thousand cases of Covid-19 are recorded every week.
