Google is adding two new image search features to reduce the spread of misinformation as artificial intelligence tools begin to produce photorealistic fakes. Bloomberg reported this.
One of the functions called About this photo Additional context is provided, such as when Google first indexed the images or similar images, where they first appeared, and where else they appeared on the web.
This feature can help users identify the original source as well as contextualize images with any rebuttal evidence that news organizations may have provided.
Google will label each AI-generated image, and is working with other platforms and services (Midjourney and Shutterstock) to ensure they add the same markup to their published files.
