The Super Heavy rocket carrying the Starship spacecraft exploded four minutes after launch in the Gulf of Mexico.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX conducted the first full test launch of a 120-meter Super Heavy launch vehicle with a Starship spacecraft from a pad in Boca Chica, Texas. The company announced this on Twitter Thursday, April 20th.

The first stage of the rocket is expected to explode off the coast of Texas in the Gulf of Mexico, while the spacecraft itself will enter Earth orbit and eventually splash into the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii.

At the same time, during the broadcast, the presenters said that the test launch could be considered successful if the rocket separated from the launch pad. As a result, the launch vehicle with the Starship spacecraft exploded four minutes after launch.

SpaceX said today’s test will help improve the Starship’s reliability and promised to continue working on fixing the bugs.

It will be recalled that the first orbital test flight of Starship was supposed to take place on April 17, but it was canceled 40 seconds before launch due to problems with one of the carrier’s pressure valves.

SpaceX is building reusable Starship spacecraft for deep space flights, including the Moon and Mars. The rocket system consists of two parts: a Super Heavy launch vehicle with 33 engines and a Starship. Both components are designed for reuse. 120m carrier The Super Heavy is taller than any other rocket ever built on Earth. It is twice as powerful as NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) heavy rocket for manned flights to the moon.
