Former CEO Google, Eric Schmidthas a hidden concern for advancing the development of artificial intelligence: people fall in love with it.
The co-author of The Age of AI considers this a fair concern, given that there are already cases that have come to the fore.
“She” in real life
“Imagine a world where you have an AI tutor raising the educational potential of everyone in every language around the world,” Schmidt said. ABC news in an interview on Sunday, adding that this use case is “wonderful” among other things.
“And these technologies, widely known as large language models, will certainly do it,” he continued.
“But at the same time, we are facing unusually new problems because of these things,” Schmidt added, before asking a rhetorical question, “what happens when people fall in love with their artificial intelligence?”
The example of a specialist is more suitable for students and professionals who will spend time educating themselves using this chatbot. The case, while it may be unthinkable to many, makes sense, especially considering how it has happened with social media and long-distance relationships, where couples connected via messages most of the time.
Is there an AI for love?
peer market artificial intelligence flourishes.
The Replika app, for example, offers a friend on a free plan and romance for a fee.
As Vice explains, a free subscription to the app leaves you in the “friendzone,” while a “Pro” subscription allows users to have a romantic relationship with a chatbot.
The success of Replika — the company claims to have two million users — demonstrates that people are able to develop strong bonds with chatbots that sound like real people.
