The first medical unit in Lviv, which performed this unique operation, has been preparing for it for many years.
The Children’s Hospital of St. Nicholas of the First Medical Association of Lviv performed a unique operation – skin transplantation of a one-year-old boy from a posthumous donor. This was reported by the press service of the First Medical Association of Lviv.
The boy received burns of 25% of the skin: chin, neck and chest. The boy pulled the kettle by the wire and poured boiling water over himself. He was immediately taken to the burn unit of St. Nicholas Hospital. In intensive care, doctors stabilize the baby’s condition. but the boy’s skin in places was so badly affected by the burns that it could not recover itself.
As a result, burn surgeons decided to apply a revolutionary approach for Ukraine in the treatment of Andryusha.
Doctors removed the upper, affected tissue fragments and covered the wounds with donor skin. It cannot take root and can be in the patient’s body for several weeks. The purpose of such a transplant is to protect the burned areas and create the most natural conditions necessary for the rapid healing of wounds. A few weeks after that, the little patient will be ready for the next step – autotransplantation – closing the wound with his own skin.
Currently, the child is at home, he only goes to the doctors for dressing.
The First Medical Association of Lviv has been preparing for donor skin transplantation for several years. In particular, on the basis of one of the largest burning centers, the first Balat Bank in the western regions of Ukraine was created. This became possible thanks to last year’s changes in the migration law.
