Qualcomm continues to rethink the future of mobile devices and raise the bar with its acclaimed Snapdragon processor lineup. With the new generation Gen 2 in the highest range, they have shown that they have been able to adapt to an increasingly demanding market, but emerging sectors are also looking for these new conditions. Faced with this need, the Californian firm officially introduces Snapdragon 7+ generation 2.
This new processor is aimed at delivering premium experiences in the $400 to $700 market segments, as well as upgrading the CPU, graphics, power efficiency, and AI capabilities within the device.
“The release of Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 exemplifies our ability to bring some of the most requested flagship features to our Snapdragon-7 series, making them accessible to more people.” said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile devices at Qualcomm. “We are committed to delivering the most innovative solutions to meet the needs of consumers, our customers and the industry as a whole.”

For this generation of the Snapdragon 7 series, Qualcomm improves the performance of the Kryo processor and achieves performance up to 2.91GHz on the most powerful cores. In the case of the Adreno GPU, we have improved performance up to 50% and power management is improved by 15% compared to the previous generation.
Photo and gaming performance
Betting on premium mid-range “gaming” models has always been an advantage, and Qualcomm is ramping up the feature count in favor of graphics and fluidity. For Gen 2 7+, Qualcomm is adding some features from its Snapdragon Elite Gaming suite, such as “Variable Rate Auto Shading” or VRS, which optimize the resolution of in-focus content while reducing the background in real time.

Along with this, support for Snapdragon Sound aptX has been added to reduce latency between audio and gameplay.
For photography, this new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 includes an image processor with up to 18-bit bit depth that captures more information in low light conditions. Compatible with sensors up to 200MP, this new Qualcomm chip captures upscaled HDR video from two cameras simultaneously and at triple exposure.
AI in the upper mid-range
Qualcomm decides to give the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 AI Engine technology for power management, the one that improves by 40% over the previous generation. In addition, phones with this chip will get more “smart” features related to the environment – scene detection, user activity in front of the smartphone, and others – thanks to Qualcomm Sensing Hub.
In terms of connectivity, this chipset includes a Snapdragon X62 5G RF modem that delivers up to 4.4Gbps download speeds and delivers the expected Dual SIM Active support for 4G or 5G networks, a dual SIM system to carry two lines per team .
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2: which computers will install it
According to Qualcomm, Redmi and Realme are preparing announcements with this configuration very soon, with other commercial products expected from March 2023.
