Saudi Arabia will send the first female astronaut into space this spring. This was reported on February 12 by the Saudi News Agency (SPA).
It was noted that in addition to Rayana Barnavi, astronaut Ali Al-Karni will go to the International Space Station as part of the Axiom-2 mission.
According to NASA, the flight will be led by the agency’s former astronaut and the first female ISS commander, Peggy Whitson, with businessman John Schoffner as pilot.
It is planned that as part of the Axiom-2 mission, private astronauts will travel to the station in the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
They will spend ten days on the ISS, where they will work alongside the permanent crew.
Recall that the first mission of commercial astronauts Axiom-1 took place in April 2022. The cost of the flight for each member is estimated at $55 million.
