NASA’s spacecraft showed a plasma explosion on the Sun

At the end of this week, especially on February 11 or 12, we can expect the appearance of a geomagnetic storm of moderate power on Earth.

NASA’s SDO spacecraft spotted a powerful burst of plasma on the Sun. This process, according to scientists, caused problems on Earth, writes Space.

“Our star is becoming more and more active, because the so-called solar maximum is about to arrive in the 11-year cycle of solar activity. In a few days, a whole series of explosions took place in a sunspot, which 10 times the size of the Earth,” – said in the message.

It was mentioned that a new area was formed in the Sun. This is a special region in the atmosphere where there are strong energy and plasma discharges into space. The area is called AR3213. It is 100 thousand km wide, that is, almost 10 times the diameter of the Earth. In this regard, a series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections occurred in this region on February 7 and 8.

Then, in some regions of the Pacific Ocean, radio communications were briefly lost.

“A class M flare with serial number M6 occurred in the area. This means that it was not the strongest possible, but still very strong. Scientists also recorded the appearance of class M1 and M4 flares for two days. All of energy emissions are accompanied by powerful bursts of plasma from the surface of the Sun. If the solar energy from a flare reaches the Earth in less than 10 minutes, then the plasma streams will reach our planet in for a few days. This means that at the end of this week, especially on February 11 or 12 we can expect the appearance of a geomagnetic storm of moderate power on Earth,” the scientists said.

Recall that early astronomers using the telescope at the Inter-American Observatory of Cerro Tololo, Chile, for the first time discovered a binary star system that produces gold, platinum and uranium when it explodes.
