A rare form of prostate cancer has caused a US man to speak with an Irish accent for life. Science Alert writes about it.

“There are only two other reports of cancer causing foreign accent syndrome (FAS) in the medical literature. This is the first case specifically related to prostate cancer,” the scientists said.

It has been noted that SIA is an unusual speech disorder that causes a sudden “foreign” accent.

The syndrome is often associated with strokes or head injuries.

The first such incident happened to a Norwegian woman in 1941. She injured her head in the bombing of Oslo and started speaking with a German accent a few months later.

But cases related to tumors are very rare.

“According to a study published in 2008, a woman in her 60s began speaking with a different, undefined accent after her breast cancer spread to her brain. In a similar case, an Italian woman in his 50s with a brain tumor suddenly began to speak in different rhythms and melodies,” experts say.

The American spoke out in a new way 20 months after he was diagnosed with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. However, he had no brain tumors.
