Google attended Safer Internet Day and described a range of measures to protect people in cyberspace.
One of the most commented upon after its announcement is the blur function. explicit images in search results for most people.
Google and the Safe Internet
A new setting that will be implemented “in the coming months” will “remove explicit images if they appear in search results when the filter Safe search not activated,” writes Jen Fitzpatrick, senior vice president of Core Systems & Experiences in Google. “This setting will be the new default setting for people who don’t already have the filter turned on. Safe searchwith the ability to change settings at any time.
In your example, Google Enter the word “Injury” into the search engine. “This image may contain explicit content. Blur Safe search activated”, reads the most obvious results.
If you’re over 18 and signed in, you’ll be able to change this tool in “Manage Settings” where you can choose from three options: Filter (where explicit results aren’t shown at all), Blur (where clicks and definition are blurry), and Off (where you see “all relevant results, even if they’re explicit”).
Excluded
Users under the age of 18 who are logged in will automatically receive the Safe search.
Google will automatically wipe explicit content for all users who are not logged in, stay logged in and specifically request it to be displayed instead.
