Spotify continues to develop a new section for its mobile version called ‘Friends’which shows content listened to by other contacts and which is currently available in the desktop version.
The company has spent years focusing its efforts on giving the streaming music platform a social profile, both on iOS and Android mobile devices and on desktop.
here is how it will work
One of these features is ‘Activity from is yours Friends’, a feature available in its desktop version that allows you to see what other users are listening to on the platform. To access this section, you must click on the arrow located in the upper right corner of the interface and click on the “Settings” button. Once inside, the tab is activated “Look what your friends are listening to”.
This feature is yet to be implemented on mobile devices worldwide despite many users requesting it. In fact, a few years ago, the company ruled out integrating this capability into its smartphone version.
Last time, Spotify is working on other similar social media-focused options with features that allow for user interaction beyond just playing content in the app.
Proof of it wrapped, a tool that is responsible for creating a summary of the activity of users registered during the first ten months of the year on the platform. This lets you know which songs are most listened to, as well as albums and artists.
Another feature that the platform has been working on in recent months is Community (“Community”), a “hub” to see what the user’s friends are listening to on the mobile app, as tech consultant Chris Messina warned last June.
He expected that the new feature, which was in the early stages of testing and only available to select users, allowed him to see both what the user’s friends were listening to and the playlists they had recently listened to.
Spotify as a social network
During the announcement of the results for the fourth fiscal quarter 2022 ended December 31, the CEO SpotifyDaniel Ek did not specify what functionality they are currently working on, although he did not reject the idea that the platform would acquire a more social aspect.
What’s more, Ek noted that social media could be “a driving force to create even more compelling experiences” for the company, according to statements compiled by TechCrunch.
As feature evaluators point out ‘Friends’ applications, Spotify is testing new options in this section, where you can already find songs selected weekly in Story format, very similar to those currently offered by Instagram and Facebook.
When asked about this at a meeting with investors, Ek reminded that since this is a tool in the testing phase, it is also possible that it will not be finally implemented on the platform. (Europe Press)
