Microsoft announced the closure of its virtual reality platform, metaverse as it is now known, is called altspaceVR.
The company indicates that the end of this space will occur on March 10, after it was saved from “death” 5 years ago.
Are they out of the metaverse?
altspaceVR was on the verge of shutting down in 2017 when its founders said they didn’t have enough funds to maintain the servers. Microsoft bought it but now seems to have lost faith in the network.
“We are looking to the future,” the Team said in a statement. altspaceVR“We see an opportunity for virtual reality to expand beyond the consumer business, and now we have an even bigger goal: a more open, accessible, and safer version of the immersive experience in the metaverse. microsoft grid is a hologram-based mixed reality communication platform that uses 3D capture to enable people to work together as if they were in the same space. Seemingly closer competition with Horizon Worlds, the Metaverse created by the Meta.
Less fun, more work
altspaceVR it offered a platform for virtual reality entertainment, hosting club nights with live DJs, book launches, fashion shows, church gatherings, language exchanges, stand-up comedy nights, and many parties and get-togethers.
“Over the next few weeks,” the announcement continues, “we are encouraging many creators and developers who are part of the community. altspaceVR organize final events and upload their contents.”
For its part, Mesh is more focused on business.
