Cars nail dryers with ultraviolet light, they can cause cell death and changes in people’s DNA.
This conclusion was reached by a group of researchers from the University of San Diego, California, motivated by an article in which a beauty queen was diagnosed with a rare skin cancer.
Studies
Using various combinations of mouse and human cells, the researchers found that one 20-minute session with UV Nail Dryer caused death up to 30% cells in a Petri dish.
Three consecutive 20-minute sessions showed 65-70% cells unprotected. Among the rest, the researchers found signs of damage to mitochondria and DNAin addition to mutations that have been observed in skin cancer patients.
“Our experimental results and previous data strongly suggest that the radiation emitted by UV dryer for nail polish can cause hand cancer and what UV dryer for nail polishlike tanning beds, may increase the risk of early-stage skin cancer,” the researchers wrote in a study published in the journal. Connection with nature.
Considerations
The researchers warn that a longer epidemiological study is needed before they can definitively say that the use of ultraviolet dryers leads to an increased risk of skin cancer.
They add that these studies “may take a decade to complete and make public.”
