‘Last of us’ This is the series of the moment. The production, based on the 2013 video game of the same name, has received massive acclaim for its storytelling and the performance of its characters, so more and more people are celebrating Sunday to see the new chapters.
Google knows about this effervescence and decided to join in the celebration with a very curious easter egg: infecting his browser with the Cordyceps fungus.
google is infected
When looking for ‘Last of us‘ on both PC and mobile devices, a red mushroom button will appear at the bottom of the screen.
When you click on it, you will see how the entire browser is infected with a virus. cordyceps mushroom, which initiates the mass infection seen in the series.
You can tap three more times (on mobile, more on desktop) to have the entire result page overgrown with mushrooms, which are thankfully illustrated/drawn rather than photorealistic.
The series’ narrative revolves around this fungus and the fact that Ellie (Bella Ramsey), despite being infected, doesn’t become some kind of zombie, so that could be the key to a cure for this pandemic.

real mushroom
It is also important to note that this fungus exists in real life with over 400 species of parasites.
They belong to the kingdom of fungi, and many of their species invade insects, replacing their tissues, while their stroma (elongated body) takes on various complex forms protruding from the affected body.
While they do have control over the insects they possess, they do not pose a threat to humans because they cannot handle their body temperature.
