Activists insisted that banning women’s nipples in photos was absurd and pointed out that men displayed them with impunity.
The supervisory board of the American company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, decided to relax censorship – moderators will not remove photos with bare female nipples. On Wednesday, January 18, The Guardian wrote.
“The restrictions and exceptions to the rules regarding female nipples are broad and confusing, especially as they apply to transgender and non-binary people,” the review board said in a statement.
According to the rules of Facebook and Instagram, the publication of nude photos on social networks is limited. In the case of female breasts, the main criterion for moderation is the visibility of the nipples in the photo – nude photos in which they are retouched are passed by the filter.
At the same time, there is no such ban on male nipples in social networks.
Meta has two months to publicly respond to the council’s recommendations. However, according to preliminary information, the American corporation has already said that they “accept” this decision.
Remember that Ukrainian moderators are working on Ukrainian content on Facebook and Instagram.
Earlier, hackers hacked the Instagram account of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzny.
