When a person leads a sedentary lifestyle, he does not use the muscles of his legs, which harms his health.
Researchers at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons found that a short walk every half hour can prevent health risks associated with prolonged sitting. NBC News writes about it.
It was noted that the participants in the experiment got up and moved for five minutes every half hour, because of which they had lower blood sugar and blood pressure than those who were constantly sitting.
“If you have a job that requires you to sit most of the day, or you are mostly sedentary, walking or simply changing positions is a strategy that can improve your health and reverse health damage from sitting,” – said lead study author Keith Diaz.
The scientist said, when we sit, we do not use the muscles of the legs, which is not healthy.
“Muscles are important regulators of blood sugar levels. If we don’t use them, everything doesn’t work properly,” he added.
The expert also said that movement helps improve blood circulation.
“When you sit, blood clots in your legs. When you regularly activate your leg muscles, it helps restore normal blood flow,” he says.
We remind, earlier the Ukrainian pediatrician, TV presenter Evgeny Komarovsky said how to reduce the risk of stroke at a young age.
