Researchers believe that additional rooms and elements should still be found below the surface to the east of the hall.
In Denmark, during construction, archaeologists excavated and examined the giant hall of reign of Harald I Blue-toothed. He was king of Denmark and Norway from 958 to 986 AD. HeritageDaily writes about it.
The hall is up to 40 meters long and 8-10 meters wide. It is assumed that it served as an important gathering place for holding political meetings, receiving guests, that is, as the center of the community’s social life.
The design is reminiscent of the Firkat (Hobro) and Aggersborg (Aggersund) structures.
A runic stone was also found in the hall. The following words are engraved on it: “Hove, Thorkild, Thorbjørn set their father Runulv den Rådnilde’s stone” (“Hov, Thorkild and Thorbjorn set the stone of their father Runulv den Rodnilde”).
“This is the greatest Viking Age find of its kind in the last ten years, and we have seen nothing like it here in North Jutland,” the archaeologists said.
