Olympic Games 2024: Delivery of Porte de La Chapelle Arena delayed by three months

While the original schedule called for the delivery of the Arena in the summer of 2023, the municipality now supports delivery “at the end of the year in December 2023, opening in January 2024”, sources told AFP. Sports and Olympic Games Assistant Pierre Rabadan. A new calendar has been approved by the Olympic delivery company (Solideo), for which this delay has “no impact on the Olympic calendar”, a spokesperson told AFP.

Located north of Paris, on the border of Saint-Denis, the Adidas Arena, so named by the naming convention, and its 7,800 seats will host badminton and gymnastics events during the Olympics. “Covid, supply concerns related to the war in Ukraine and inflation” explain this “three to four month” delay, according to the first source in the municipality. This is the first delay expected at Olympic venues, other than minor delays attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The consequences of occupying the complex during the pre-Olympic sports season

This inconsistency will affect especially the organization of preparatory competitions, “test events”. So the 2023 edition of the French Badminton Internationals is being held at the Stade Pierre-de-Coubertin (west of Paris), with discussions for the 2024 edition “underway”, says Pierre Rabadan’s entourage.

As for Paris Basketball, the elite club that was supposed to reside in the Arena from the beginning of the 2023 academic year, “it remains in Carpentier, in the summary hall in the south of the capital, until the work is completed, says a source at the Mayor;
