France U18 defeated Italy (1-0) in the final of Monday’s Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria. This is Les Bleuets’ second title in this competition since the 1967 edition. Mediterranean Games are reserved for players born after January 1, 2004.
The event brought together eight nations, including hosts Algeria, who defeated France (3-2) in front of 40,000 spectators in the group stage. In front of around 25,000 spectators, the French under-18s won the final thanks to a 68th-minute goal from Bordeaux midfielder Lenny Piringuel.
The performance comes on top of a string of good results from France’s youth teams in recent weeks, notably winning the Under-17 Men’s European Championship at the start of June.
