Washington Nationals star Juan Soto has received a new contract extension offer worth $425 million over 13 years, the BBC reports. Deportivo reports the agency Reuters:.
It is noted that the negotiations have intensified in recent days, and that the American Capital franchise has increased its initial offer by $75 million.
Juan Soto said in February that he had withdrawn “350 million dollar extension for 13 years” during the offseason, adding that he would rather wait until the end of the 2024 season to sign a new contract, when he becomes a free agent.
New record contract.
The $425 million deal puts Juan Soto behind Mike Trout ($426.5 million) of the Los Angeles Angels and ahead of Mookie Betts ($365 million) of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 23-year-old is making $17.1 million this season. He was hitting .224 with 14 home runs and 32 RBIs in 76 games. The 2019 champion was named MLB MVP last season with a league-best .313 batting average and .465 on-base percentage. He had 29 home runs and 95 RBI in 151 games.
