Swimming star Caleb Dressel of the United States lost to the 100m freestyle semifinals at the World Championships in Budapest on Tuesday.
Shortly before the start of the season, Dresel, who is an Olympic champion, was removed from the starting list of the semifinals. According to a press release from the American Federation, which was passed to the American media, Dressel was recalled for “medical reasons”.
“The United States team, in consultation with Caleb and his coach, the medical staff of the team, has decided to withdraw from the 100m freestyle for medical reasons.”explains Lindsey Mintenko, the general manager of the US swimming team, which is quoted in the press release. “The team will decide on its participation in the events at the end of the week”.
He was replaced by Korean Hwang Sunwu.
In Budapest, the American, the two-time world champion in this competition, has already won two titles – 50m butterfly – in the 4x100m freestyle relay race with his teammates. He is also involved in the 50m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.
