congressman Edward Malaga-Trilloinitiator of the third proposal on the vacancy of the President, welcomed the decision of the plenary session Congress approve with 73 votes in favour, 32 against and 6 abstentions the admission to the processing of the presidential vacancy against Pedro Castillo.

“It’s been 10 months of hard work, not only drafting a job offer, but reaching consensus, building bridges, overcoming resistance, and at this point we have taken a significant step towards the vacancy. Not everything is won, not at all, but this is also reflected in the number of votes (73) that we are moving towards,” he said.

in dialogue with RPP News, the parliamentarian noted the progress in the number of votes, since, as he recalled, 67 signatures were put for the submission of the proposal, which was allowed for discussion this Thursday by 73 votes. In his opinion, this will reveal the presence of “hidden votes that were not reflected in the signatures, but which will be given over time.”

“It’s not as easy as it sounds (reaching 87 votes). Trends can change from one side to the other, and you should clearly understand that negotiations are underway in this area. Probably (Pedro) Castillo will look for what to negotiate, what to offer in exchange for votes, and we do not have such power, because we do not have control over the ministries,” he admitted.

Although he stressed the admission to the presidential vacancy process against Pedro Castillo, the parliamentarian admitted that this is “not the only alternative” to get the president out, citing a possible removal.

“You have to see the possibility that the tax charge will also result in a suspension. Several mechanisms are at stake, and I have tried to emphasize that a vacancy or removal, like the removal of a president, is not a solution. first step,” he said.

“If we want early general elections with reforms that give us governability, we first need to remove the president. If we go only to early elections, Castillo does not guarantee that it will be a democratic and transparent transition, which we will need,” he added.

Congress approved the acceptance of the vacancy proposal for discussion

This Thursday there will be a plenary session Congress approved by 73 votes in favor, 32 against and 6 abstentions the admission to the processing of the presidential vacancy against Pedro Castillo. The debate and final vote will take place next Wednesday, 7 December at 15:00.

The petition for the vacancy is the third filed against the head of state in less than a year and a half of his term. It was signed by congressmen from the bench Fuerza Popular, Renovación Popular, Avanza País, Somos Perú and Alianza para el Progreso (APP), as well as representatives of other groups.

Congressmen approving admission to processing vacancyapproved by 58 votes in favor of changing the date of the presentation of the president Pedro Castillo with his protection plenary session of Parliament. In theory, it was supposed to take place on December 12, but it was remade on the 7th of the same month.

To approve the resignation of Pedro Castillo from the post of head of state in Parliament, 87 votes in favor are needed.. This figure corresponds to two-thirds of the total number of congressmen.

President Pedro Castillo is facing a new request to be fired due to an alleged “permanent moral incapacity” to continue in office. According to this request, a 100+ page document promoted by Edward Malaga Trillo, “it is not acceptable for a president to hold office in the face of clear signs of corruption, serious humiliation, or moral and ethical issues.”
