Members of the Board of Directors of the Congress headed by Joseph Williamsheld a press conference following a meeting today, Tuesday, November 21, with the high-level group that formed the Organization of American States (OAS) to analyze the political situation in the country.
During the conference Williams stressed that initially mission International let there be a meeting transmitted at the signal of Congress; Nonetheless diplomats They denied the request for “protocol issues”.
Thus, the head of Congress spoke in detail about the details of the meeting and said that although parliament acknowledged the existence of “frictions” with the executive branch, this panorama does not mean either a “crisis”, much less the intention Legislative desire to do coupthrough presidential vacancy or disability from Castillo Terrones.
“We told them that there was friction, that they were strong, but they did not lead us to a crisis, unless the intention of the Congress to carry out a coup was predetermined. We respect democracy, it was what we badly needed,” he told the media.
“We are not a coup Congress, much less one that deviates from what is set out in the Constitution,” he added.

He pointed out that the clashes with the government of Pedro Castillo were due to the appointment of persons not in line with the profile to run public institutions, a situation which, he recalled, had led to interpellations against some of the government ministers.
He added that this is another reason for the clashes. Williamsis the perseverance of the executive to propose installation constituent Assembly take over the development of new Constitution
“Congress is only about fighting and defending institutions and democracy. We are aware that we have limitations and shortcomings, but Congress is a stronghold, it is a value that helps ensure democracy,” he said.
“We were very firm that we would defend the Constitution, the rules and democracy at all costs,” he added.
On the other hand, Williams reported that they would send more than 10 folders with questions to the leadership to the Permanent Council Terrones Castleand the elements of a guilty verdict set out in the constitutional complaint filed by National Attorney Patricia Benavidez against the President.
“We opened the exhibition and presented all these folders, which will be submitted to the Permanent Council. In addition, the constitutional complaint of the Public Ministry is delivered and a folder is sent to them, where everything that we discussed today,” he said.
They suggested a meeting with the Press Society.
In turn, the third Vice President of the Parliament, Alejandro Munante, criticized the fact that the meeting with the OAS could not be televised and said that the delegation had been asked to schedule a meeting with the Peruvian Press Association (CPP).
“If they come here to take care of democracy, the right to freedom of the press is necessary to maintain democratic institutions,” Munante said.
For her part, Congressional Second Vice President Digna Kalle Lobaton said she told the OAS of the little attention her bill to advance the general election received.
“They took it well and told me it was a good alternative,” he said.
