Most news outlets prohibit reporters from participating in political campaigns, but Fox News defended Hannit as a thinker rather than a reporter.
However, the network has beaten him in the past for participating in campaign events. In 2018, after taking the stage at a Trump rally in Missouri, Fox News said it “did not spare any talent involved in the campaign” and said the incident was a “sad and well-considered affair.”
And in 2016, after Hanit Striking in Political Advertising was published by Trump’s campaign, Fox News said he would not be allowed to appear in other ads for the remainder of the election season.
Fox News did not immediately return a request for comment from HuffPost on Monday.
The announcement of the Fox News presenter speaking to the White House has sparked criticism on the Internet. In a clip released in April 2020, Hannitie said, “I wasn’t told what to say,” saying her show was “always independent”.
