Congressman Jorge Flores proposes to make voting in general, regional and municipal elections voluntary

People’s Action Congressman Jorge Flores Ancachi introduced bill that the citizen’s voice be volunteer in general, regional and municipal elections.

Legislative Initiative 3415/2022-CR, published on the official website of the Congress, proposes to amend Article 31 of the Political Constitution to make voting optional in the next elections.

In an explanatory note populist legislator defends his proposal by pointing out that voluntary vote it is a practice that occurs in “more than 95 countries”, which makes him feel it is a mistake to force citizenship a vote when the problem is related to factors such as “the weak image of the incumbent politician, the unreliability of political parties and the lack of serious political plans.”

“The promotion of optional voting will lead to favorable changes in the politics of our country, as it will improve the quality of voters so that they can make a decision to vote based on adequate information and distinguishing the main criteria in the search for candidates who represent,” reads the document presented by the parliamentarian from A.P.
