Congressional Ethics Commission On Monday, a majority rejected a report recommending that MP Patricia Chirinos be suspended for 15 days for speaking out against her colleague Betsy Chavez (Democratic Party of Peru) during a plenary meeting held three months ago. Six deputies voted for, seven against, two abstained.
A parliamentary report indicates that a congresswoman from Avanza País made an “offensive and discriminatory speech regarding appearance” of her colleague while she was secretary of labor.
Controversial words about. Patricia Chirinos against Betsy Chavez they were given during the interpellation session at the plenary session of the Congress in May of this year. According to the report, several parliamentarians said they drew attention to him as he “did not change the tone of his voice and continued his insulting and demeaning speech”.
The complaint to the Ethics Commission was filed by Congressmen Sucel Paredes and Carlos Ceballos, members of the Integrity and Development Caucus.
Current Minister of Culture Betsy Chaveznoted at the time that Patricia Chirinos she should be punished for her expressions towards her despite her apologies.
“Apologizing does not release you from the sanction. And with no intention of revenge, I think a colleague should consider the peace of her home, but she deserves an ethics sanction,” she told RPP in May.
Patricia Chirinos violated electoral neutrality
Callao’s special electoral jury announced last Tuesday that Congresswoman Patricia Chirinos violated the rules of electoral neutrality by taking part in a proselytizing event for two candidates from her party.
“Declare that citizen Patricia Rosa Chirinos Venegas, Congresswoman of the Republic of Peru for the period 2021-2026, has committed the offense provided for in Article 32, subsection 32.1. candidate,” the resolution of the report says.
JI Callao came to the conclusion that, as mentioned Patricia Chirinos in a case of infringement related to invoking her status as a civil servant or civil servant to “influence the intent of third parties to vote”, is considered to be fulfilled, given that she refers to “her act of Congress to introduce a bill for the re-election of authorities.”
The Judicial Panel of People’s Action has filed a complaint with the Ethics Commission against Patricia Chirinos in the same case, in which they ask to be deprived of her right to hold public office for 10 years.
