Yelp To Cover Travel Costs For Workers Leaving Texas To Seek Abortion –

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Yelp will cover travel expenses for employees who need to travel abroad to have an abortion and join the ranks of Large Employers Seeking to help workers affected by new restrictions in Texas and others. other states.

The exemption announced Tuesday includes all 4,000 employees of the online review service, but seems to have the biggest impact on the 200 Texas employees who passed legislation banning abortion in the state after six weeks of pregnancy.

“We have long been strong advocates for equality in the workplace and believe that gender equality cannot be achieved if women’s health rights are limited,” said Miriam Warren, Chief Yelp Diversity Officer.

Other states, including Oklahoma are also cutting abortions, forcing San Francisco -based Yelp, and several other companies to develop policies to help their workers get reproductive health care in other states.

Last month, New York-based Citigroup announced plans to cover the travel expenses of more than 220,000 employees, thousands of whom work in Texas and travel to other states to have abortions.

The two largest passenger services in the U.S., Uber and Lyft, announced last year that they would pay a statutory fee for drivers who can sue under new Texas law for taking a passenger to an appointment for sa. abortion.

The policy shows potential reactions from companies to those supporting abortion restrictions, but it could be a blessing to Texas-based employers in a growing competitive job market.
